Seed House Coffee is a specialty coffee company in Michigan. We roast coffee worth paying for, and we give part of what we make back to the communities we live in.

There is nothing complicated underneath that. No angle, no cause we picked because it tested well. We sell good coffee and we put money back into the place we live.

We are small on purpose. We started with one bag and one neighborhood, and we would rather grow slow and keep it good than grow fast and let it slip.

02 · Meet the owner

Who is behind this

I am from Metro Detroit. I have been in the Greater Lansing area for six years now.

I work in packaging, and I still do. Coffee was always the thing I actually loved, and at some point loving it stopped being enough. I wanted the thing I care about and the faith I stand on to add up to more than a hobby.

Coffee is the right thing to build it on. It brings people together, and it is the first thing most of us reach for in the morning to get going. It warms you up. It can turn a mood around. I wanted the give-back sitting on top of something that already does that for people, because of what it could do more of.

Matthew 17:20 is not a verse I picked because it sounded good on a bag. I have lived it. My childhood, my relationships, the faith I stand on today. All of it came through that.

03 · Why Seed House

Where the name comes from

A mustard seed is almost nothing in your hand. It is small enough to lose in the dirt. But it already carries everything the full plant will ever be.

A seed house is where seed is kept before it goes in the ground. It is not the harvest. It is the part before the harvest, when all you have is the thing in your hand and a decision about whether to plant it.

That is where the name comes from. We started small on purpose, and we are not embarrassed about it. One bag, one dollar, one Michigan neighborhood at a time.

04 · The verse the whole thing sits on

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move.

Matthew 17:20

Most people hear that verse as a promise about power. Read it again and it is mostly a statement about size. The disciples had just failed at something and asked why. He did not tell them they needed more faith. He told them they needed almost none.

So the point is not that a little faith gets you what you want. The point is that faith is a seed, and a seed does nothing until it is in the ground. In your pocket it is a small hard thing. In the dirt, out of sight, where you cannot dig it up every week to check on it, it becomes something that was not there before.

That is the whole thesis of this company. You plant before you can see the harvest, and small and consistent beats big and loud. We are not trying to move the mountain this quarter. We are trying to put something in the ground every week and keep doing it long enough that it counts.

That dot is actual size. A mustard seed runs about a millimeter across. You could lose one in the carpet and never find it again.

05 · The goal

What we are actually trying to do

Build a coffee company good enough that people buy it for the coffee alone, and then use it to put money and time back into Mid-Michigan.

Not a percentage buried in a footer. Not a national cause with a logo on it. Real money, to real places, close enough that you could drive there on a Saturday.

The give-back is not a marketing angle. It is Micah 6:8 with a receipt.

We publish what we gave and where it went. If we ever stop publishing it, stop believing us.

The part that is hard

I will be honest about where I am with it. I have a perfectly painted picture of Seed House in my head, and the reality is it is never going to look exactly like that. Some days that is hard to sit with.

But it does not take much faith to keep pushing. It takes a little, and it takes actually planting it
